2007 feather - 92 Points
Firm, chewy and distinctive for its smoky and dried tomato accents around a core of blackberry, black cherry and bay leaf flavors, lingering expressively on the deftly balanced finish. Best from 2012 through 2017.

Randy is a frequent visitor to the Columbia Valley, checking the vines at his favorite vineyards for balance throughout the growing season and returning during harvest to inspect the grapes before making the call to pick. Sagemoor Groups’ Dionysus (Tri-Cities) and Weinbau Vineyards (Wahluke Slope) were the dominant vineyard sources, contributing concentration and richness to the wine. Horse Heaven Hills vineyards, including The Benches at Wallula, gave the wine elegance, earthiness and dimension. Red Mountain fruit provided the structure and backbone.

The nose gives up aromas of toasty oak, scorched earth, Asian spices, black currant, and blackberry. Firm and structured on the palate, there are layers of fruit and enough tannin to evolve for another 4-6 years. |

The fruit is concentrated and pure: raspberry, cherry and cassis with a chaser of lemony acid. |

2004 Feather - 91 Points
This opaque purple wine delivers classic Cabernet aromas of toast, lead pencil, black currant and blackberry. |

2004 Feather - 91 Points
Dense in texture, but not heavy, with bright red cherry, pomegranate and plum flavors piercing a distinct layer of fine-grained tannins. Has freshness and grace. |

2004 Feather - 91(+) Points
Dark aromas of cassis, tar, smoked meat and nutty oak. Juicy and intensely flavored, with noteworthy energy to the primary flavors of cassis and plum. Finishes with excellent length and aromatic lift. Very Dunn in style. |

2003 Feather - 93 points
Feather's bold aromatics reveal loads of roasted black fruits and spices. A massive effort, it is thick, dense, and powerful. Layers of licorice and tar-laced black fruits are found in its velvety-textured core as well as in its long finish. Though unquestionably a Randy Dunn wine, one that’s loaded for bear (not quail), its finish reveals ripe, round tannin that is sweeter and more civilized than any I’ve encountered in Dunn’s California behemoths (and I own many!). |

2003 Feather - 92 points
Supple and velvety style stacks pepper and coffee notes on top of a vivid core of blackberry, raspberry and currant fruit that just doesn't quit. Attractive now, but should develop additional depth with time in the bottle. more... |

2003 Feather - 91 points
Bright ruby-red. Dark berries, plum, graphite, licorice, mocha and earth on the nose. Plump, ripe and broad but not overly sweet, with fruit-driven flavors of plum and black raspberry. The tannins show a slight youthful dryness but nonetheless come across as broad and sweet for a Randy Dunn wine. Stylish and long. |

2003 Feather - 91 points
Soft, ripe and plummy, it shows a good mix of red and blue fruits, amplified with lots of toast, chocolate, coffee and cinnamon highlights. Definitely a Napa meets Washington style. |
A diverse selection of Tri-Cities area vineyards (42%), including Sagemoor, provide deep color and ripe, flavorful tannins to the wine. Stillwater Creek Vineyard on the Royal Slope of the Frenchman Hills (38%) adds bright, vibrant fruit characteristics. Grapes from Wallula, Champoux and Alder Ridge Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills (30%) add layers of earth, dark fruit and refined tannins.
Randy Dunn is one of the world’s most celebrated makers of extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignons.
Dunn established his reputation at Caymus Winery from 1975 to 1985, where his Cabernet Sauvignons became the benchmark for the industry. In addition, his artistry shaped other premium wineries that now enjoy an acclaimed place in the sun (Pahlmeyer, Livingston, La Jota and others). Since 1979, Dunn has produced roughly 5,000 cases a year of his Dunn Vineyards Cabernets.
Randy is known not only for his famous wines, but for his philosophy on how to make wine. He does it his way - leaving the floor of the Napa Valley “to corn and melon farmers,” he tends his vines in the red stony soil of Howell Mountain. There are no road signs; no retail sales. And don’t look for him in a winery tour guide. No time for that, as Randy spends his quiet hours making his wonderful heirloom wines.
Randy lives with his wife, Lori, next to the winery on Howell Mountain.
