Chester-kidder named "best bordeaux-style red over $20" - seattle magazine
"One of the Long Shadows lineup, Chester-Kidder is the one wine that is made by the winery's own winemaker, Gilles Nicault, rather than one of the globe-trotting guest winemakers who fly in from Australia, France and beyond to create the other Long Shadows wines. Nicault's blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah is one of the most balanced of the Long Shadows lineup, with what one judge described as "ripe fruit framed by firm tannins," with notes of earth, forest floor and tobacco adding complexity"

Wine enthusiast's - top 100 wines (poet's leap #8)
Each year, the editors of Wine Enthusiast magazine compile a list of their favorite wines of the year. We're proud to announce that they named Poet's Leap Riesling the #8 wine for 2009 (#1 domestic white):
"Loaded with honeysuckle, melon, pear, peach and hints of sweet grapefruit, this juicy wine perfectly captures the intensity of Washington Riesling and the complexity of German wines. Buoyant and precise with notes of chalk and limestone in the finish, this is a stunning achievement in a challenging vintage."

food & wine magazine - winery of the year, 2007
"Some people don't grasp the concept of retirement. By the time Allen Shoup stepped away from a distinguished 20 career as CEO of Washington state wine giant Stimpson Lane (owner of Chateau Ste. Michelle and Columbia Crest), he was already at work on a new venture. Shoup's groundbreaking new Long Shadows is devoted to producing luxury wines from Washington vineyards in partnership with international winemaking superstars (i.e. people who cast long shadows). Among the bottlings are the Sangiovese blend Saggi, from Tuscany's Folonari family; the Cabernet blend Pirouette, from Napa's Philippe Melka; and the Sequel Syrah, from Australia's John Duval (formerly winemaker at Penfolds). The wines are all produced at a state of the art facility in Walla Walla--where a superstar may even be spotted from time to time."

Refined Vintages
When Allen Shoup retired in 2001 as CEO of Stimson Lane, corporate parent of Washington wine giant Chateau Ste. Michelle, he understood he was a manager, not a winemaker. But he wanted to apply what he had learned from some of the best minds in the business to a new...

All-Star Team
Flying winemakers are a common sighting these days. They appear on everyone's life list, so no extra points for spotting them. They flit from California to Argentina to France to Australia, amassing frequent flyer miles while making, for the most part, unremarkable if inoffensive...
