White House Serves 2008 Poet's Leap Botrytis at State Dinner

The President and Mrs. Obama hosted President Hu of China for an official state dinner on January 19, 2011. At the request of the Chinese Delegation, the White House arranged a “quintessentially American” evening, complete with a menu, decor, and entertainment that reflected some of the nation’s most recognizable offerings.  The 2008 Poet's Leap Botrytis Riesling was one of only three wines poured that evening, and was served with apple pie and vanilla ice cream.

A number of Washington State officials attended Wednesday night’s dinner, including Governor Christine Gregoire. “We’re thrilled that the White House chose to honor this special occasion with Washington wines,” said Governor Gregoire. “I’m not shy about asking our great wines to be served at White House occasions and given our state’s strong economic and cultural ties with China, these were fitting wines to serve. Poet’s Leap Riesling constantly ranks among the top wines. I’ll continue to advocate for our great wines to be served at these important and historic occasions.”
